The ornaments represent the Got Choices participants. They were made by the girls and they all did such an amazing job decorating and showed their dedication to the program.
This year the Got Choices staff went in a different direction as far as how the tree would be decorated. In the past, we have usually invited Got Choices participants to our main office in San Jose and had girls work on making/decorating ornaments. However, this year we decided to open it up to all girls in the program because some of them are not able to make it to the office especially if they are in a detention center or group home. We provided the ornaments for each site and every girl got a chance to make/decorate their own ornament.
The Girl Scouts of Northern California Got Choices program is a pre-intervention/intervention program and we have been in the community serving girls for 18 years now. Our program is geared in helping at risk/high risk girls and we provide a weekly, one hour, healthy living life skills program at 12 sites in Santa Clara County. We provide our program year round at middle schools, high schools, detention facilities, and transitional group homes.
We are always in need of free guest speakers that are knowledgeable in a certain subject/skill that can come to our sites and present to our girls. Also, we can always use donations of school supplies, business attire (that has been gently used) and toiletries items.
