Horace Cureton Elementary is a public school in the Alum Rock Union School District in East San Jose. Our tree was decorated by the third grade students.
We embedded the making our ornaments with our physical science lesson where the students learned that light travels in a direction. As a basis for understanding this concept, the students also observe that light will travel through transparent objects and can be blocked by solid or opaque objects to create shadows.
We have glitter globes that are clear and transparent. We put little cards they say: joy, hope, peace, love, etc. The "stained glass" ornaments are made of vinyl and aluminum.
