We are girl scout troop 61186 of Girl Scouts of Northern California. This is our first year decorating a tree.
We are a Brownie and Junior girl scout troop from Milpitas, CA. Sixteen girls and their moms are committed to making the world a better place, developing our leadership skills, and having fun! We love to camp and be outdoors, and we work hard to run our product sales to fund our trips and badge activities. We enjoy community service projects 2-3 times a year, too.
Our troop chose to make our tree decorations out of reusable items and traditional craft materials. We made self-portraits out of paper bags, and we also used origami paper. We wanted it to be very girl scouty, green, and 'use resources wisely' -- an important part of the Girl Scout Law.
Our troop is always looking for ways to serve our community. In the past we have helped the Humane Society of Silicon Valley, Calaveras Montessori School, the Milpitas Food Pantry, and Japan Relief efforts through the Red Cross when the tsunamis struck. We most recently participated in a clothing drive for Hope and plan on connecting with the Olevolos Project in Tanzania, Africa.
