The tree is for the club ACCENTS, created to promote Culture, cultures, service and exchange. It was decorated by members of the club and friends. Our club decided to participate because it was in keeping with our goal of exchange and honoring cultures. ACCENTS also had a tree two years ago.
Our decorations are all handmade and include decorated clear ball ornaments, hand painted and filled, including a few from other "cultural" clubs on campus who were invited to contribute; handmade styrofoam and clothespin "people" dressed in typical clothing of the countries they represent; miniature Christmas trees, garlands and bows. Our theme is "Children of the World".
Our principal needs help funding transportation and entry fees to museums and other cultural events. We have been to the DeYoung in San Francisco for both Impressionist exhibits, as well as to the theater for a presentation of "Le Petit Prince" and dinner at a Michelin-star restaurant.
We are hoping to host some foreign students this year, and will need to take them to San Francisco, Monterey, etc. Our students participate in recycling, food collection, volunteer work at museums, tutoring and other volunteer projects as they are presented.
