Third grade Brownies from Troop #61143 decorated our tree. Most of the girls attend St. Lucy School in Campbell, and we have one who attends Easterbrook Discovery in San Jose.
Many of the girls have visited Christmas in the Park multiple times and have seen trees decorated by various groups (Girl Scouts included). When a list of activities for the year was presented to the girls in September, this activity was the #1 vote getter by the girls.
All 17 Brownies contributed to the tree by making ornaments and/or decorating it. All of them are thrilled to be able to say to their families and friends, "Hey, that's our troop's tree!" We hope to make this an annual tradition.
This is the fourth year of Girl Scouting for most of the girls in the troop, and since their Kindergarten year when they were Daisy Girl Scouts, the girls have focused on the community. They have sung Christmas Carols at a nearby retirement home and distributed hand-made cards to residents, donated $135 to Second Harvest Food Bank, participated in a Campbell community-wide clean-up day to beautify Los Gatos Creek, sewed pillowcases for child-aged cancer patients at ConKerr Center and donated over 45 bags of clothing and shoes to HOPE.
This past Veteran's Day, the troop placed American flags at the gravestones on over 400 servicemen and women buried at the Veteran's Memorial site at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in the Los Altos Hills.
