Works/San Jose is a non-profit community art and performing art center in downtown San Jose. The organization has a 33 year long history of helping artists to show art in downtown. We are run by a working volunteer Board of Directors and four of them decorated the tree, including Stephanie Battle (Vice President), Kimy Martinez (Secretary), Patrick Hofmeister (Treasurer) and Al Preciado (Programming Chair).
We have been working hard to renew our organization in hard economic times. We feel building the tree will help to express our love of community art projects, collaboration and expanding the Works/San Jose name so people know who we are! Works/San Jose's mission is to allow the public to experiment, exhibit and engage in the arts, something that we did in this project!
The angel on the top and the foil birds were created by artist Alfred Preciado, an artist, educator and curator in the Bay Area for over 30 years. He teaches courses to area school children about how to make art projects out of household materials. The other ornaments were provided by Kimy Martinez, an artist and art educator whose creativity knows no bounds!
Works/San Jose is an all-volunteer organization who needs everyone's help to keep the rent paid, especially during these non-profit times. We also need as many artists, exhibitors, curators, and other professionals to help with the work of running a non-profit.
